Sheep Showing Team Meetings

Every Tuesday and Friday lunchtime of Term 3 & 4
These meetings are at the Ag Hort Compound. During Term 3 it is compulsory to attend 1 meeting a week (This is as per normal for any member of the Sheep Showing Team). You will also be required to attend the first Tuesday Meeting of Term, this meeting is a Geelong Team exclusive meeting and it is crucial that you attend as all last minute information will be delivered during this meeting.

Afternoon Sessions

Every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, 4-5pm of Term 3
At the Ag Hort, as a member of the 2011 Geelong Show Team you are expect to attend at least two of these afternoon sessions for the Term, during these sessions preparation for Geelong Show will commence with Indoor and Outdoor work required.

Individual Head Analysis

Evaluation Task of your animal to be complete by Wednesday Week 9, Term 3
The Individual Head Analysis is an evaluation Task of your sheep. This Task is to be completed by all members of the team by Wednesday Week 9. It covers the weight, fleece, health and handling of your animal. All this information will be required at the Geelong Show. This Task is designed to make you more familiar with your animal and be able to answer the Judges Questions. It also lets us know who we need to teach to par, crutch, judge, examine fleece etc. This is the first time we have used this sheet so we thank you for your Support

Preparation Day 1- Weaning Day (Lambs and Ewes)

Thursday 6th of October 9am to 3:30pm (bring snack)
At the Ag Hort; compulsory prep day for the Lamb and Ewe groups, a day in which the lambs will be weaned from their mothers in preparation for Geelong Show. Preparation on the Ewes and Lambs will also be conducted on this day. You must notify me or your Stud Master immediately if you cannot attend. This is a compulsory prep day so if you cannot attend the Weaning Day you must attend Preparation Day 2.

Preparation Day 2 (Rams & Stud Masters)

Sunday 9th of October 9am-3:30 (bring snack)
Preparation Day 2 will be at the Ag Hort, a compulsory prep day for the Ram group and Stud Masters. On this day the final preparation for Geelong Show will be completed. Work on your principal Sheep and flock preparation will be a main part of the day as well as gathering all the equipment that will be taken to Geelong. Attendance to either Preparation Day 1 or 2 is compulsory.

Preparation Day 3 (elective)

Wednesday 12th of October 4-5pm (afterschool)
The 3rd Preparation Day is an elective day which will commence during the 1st Wednesday Afternoon Session of Term 3. During this day the trailer will be packed cleaned and all equipment will be loaded into the bus in order to ensure a timely departure on Thursday.

Royal Geelong Show

Thursday 13th of October, arrive Ag Hort 12:10, Bus departs 12:50pm
On the Day we depart you will be required to attend Periods 1 and 2 per normal. Before School you are welcome to drop your bags of at the Ag Hort. During Period 3 you are expected to be at the Ag Hort to help load the Sheep, we plan to depart before Lunch.
Lunch, we will not stop until we reach Geelong so please pack your lunch.
Arrive Geelong Showgrounds by 3pm, unload and pen sheep, water, food, last minute preparation.
Late Afternoon- travel to Barwon River Tourist Park and get settled in, accommodation is in Cabins. Dinner will be eaten at ‘Smorgies’ an all you can eat restaurant on Geelong Pier, you should bring with you $25 for the meal, $20 for entrance drinks not included. Accommodation is in Cabins.
Friday 14th of October,
Wake up 6-6:30am –no sleeping in.
Breakfast provided in Cabins, ensure you have eaten breakfast by 7:15, and depart 7:30 for showgrounds.
Arrive Show Grounds 7:45-8am, Sheep are prepared, fed and watered Showing starts at 9am.

You must bring a small amount of money to purchase lunch at the show.
The Interbreed takes place on Friday Afternoon, the Sheep Showing Team will be either Showing, helping other breeders or watching the interbreed during this time.
Return to Barwon River Tourist Park, dinner will be provided at Barwon River Tourist Park, we will then return to Geelong Show at 8:30pm to watch the Fireworks.
Saturday 16th of July
Wake up 6-6:30am –no sleeping in.
You will be required to pack up your bedding and clean out your cabin before 7:30
Breakfast provided in Scout Hall ensure you have eaten breakfast by 8:00, depart 8:30 for Showgrounds.
The Junior Judging Competition commences at 9am, everyone must enter and participate. After the Competition you will have an opportunity to tour the show. You must bring a small amount of money to purchase lunch at the Showgrounds. A Presentation Ceremony will also commence on Saturday, everyone must be present. During Saturday Afternoon we may elect to leave the Showgrounds and go into Geelong. We will depart the Showgrounds at 4:00 for Woodleigh School.
We need to clean out the trailer, put all the sheep in their designated paddocks and unload the bus before anyone is allowed to leave. Pick up will be announced closer to the date however we plan to be finished by 7:00.
